         The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in cooperation with Ministry of Science and Technology, Kingdom of Thailand presents its compliments to the ASEANTOM’s Member States and has the honour to draw their attention to the ASEAN Next 2017: Smart Community through Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Collaboration & ASEANTOM Workshop on Capacity Building and Strengthening the Nuclear and Radiation Safety and Security Network in the ASEAN Region. The event was held in Bangkok, from 6 to 9 March 2017.

          Dr. Atchara  Wongsaengchan, Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) said at the opening ceremony of the ASEANTOM Workshop on Capacity Building and Strengthening the Nuclear and Radiation Safety and Security Network in the ASEAN Region, at the Office of Atoms for Peace, March 7 2017 that the purposes of the workshop are; (i) to provide participants with intensive workshop on several areas of nuclear and radiation safety and security including nuclear forensics, radiation biodosimetry, radiation metrology, environmental radioactivity measurement, and emergency preparedness and response, (ii) to have a perfect opportunity for exchanging their knowledge and experience among experts from the ASEANTOM’s Member States, and (iii) to strengthen the regional network. The attached prospectus provides further details of the course.       

More than 80 participants from the national nuclear and radiation regulatory organizations and relevant institutions of the ASEANTOM member states participated in this event such as, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

The ASEANTOM workshop had gained a fruitful outcome to build up capacity building and strengthening the network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy in this region.

OAP Officials and a Group of Experts had Visited Nuclear Facilities in Japan to Promote Future Nuclear Safety Collaboration

           Office of Atoms for Peace or OAP officials, Ministry of Science and Technology, together with a group of Thai experts were invited to Japan by JAIF International Cooperation Center (JICC) for a technical visit in Japanese nuclear facilities during March 18 - 21, 2019. The purposes of the visit are to exchange knowledge and lesson-learned in the field of nuclear safety as well as to experience the state-of-the-art nuclear technologies. In this visit, two parties had a chance to discuss together potential collaborations and relevant nuclear safety issues. OAP aims to make use of those new knowledge not only in their attempt to establish nuclear safety network in the region, but also to develop Thailand nuclear safety strategies and regulatory roles to meet international standards.

        On March 11, 2019, The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) organized a second public seminar on “Up to date on Nuclear Law – Safe Living in Thailand 4.0” at Golden City Rayong Hotel, aiming to increase public understanding on principle of the Nuclear Energy for Peace Act and its soon-to-be-effective amendment as well as guidelines relating to the Act. Generating a great interest from the public, the seminar targeted nuclear and radiation entrepreneurs, radiation safety officers, operators, medical personnel and representatives from governmental and private sectors from eastern Thailand especially in Rayong province and drew more than 300 participants. However, this is the second seminar from 5 seminars planning all over Thailand.

       On April 3, 2019, the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) organized a third public seminar on “Up to date on Nuclear Law – Safe Living in Thailand 4.0” at Lampang Wiengthong Hotel, Lampang province. Ms. Vilaivan Tanjoy, Acting Secretary General of OAP said at the opening ceremony that the seminar aiming to increase public understanding on principle of the Nuclear Energy for Peace Act and its soon-to-be-effective amendment as well as guidelines relating to the Act. Generating a great interest from the public, the seminar targeted nuclear and radiation entrepreneurs, radiation safety officers, operators, medical personnel and representatives from governmental and private sectors from northern Thailand and drew more than 200 participants. However, this is the 3rd seminar from 5 seminars planning all over Thailand. By the way, the 4th seminar will be conducted in Nakhon Ratchasima province in June 2019. The OAP will keep continuing to acknowledge more about the act and the amendment to relevant stakeholders from north-eastern Thailand which expect that there will be more than 300 hundreds of participants in this seminar.

       OAP Secretary General visited the Primary Seismic-41 (PS-41) station and discussed MOU between OAP and Hydrographic Department, the royal Thai Navy

            28 October 2019, Miss Vilaivan Tanjoy, the OAP Secretary General visited the Primary Seismic-41 (PS-41) at Chiang Mai Thailand established under Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty: CTBT. under the responsibility of the Navy Hydrographic Department as local operator. In this regard, Rear Admiral Chakkrit Malikhao Deputy-Director-General and his team welcomed the SG Vilaivan and also lectured on the operation of the station such as Seismic monitoring on ground as well as data transfer between the station and CTBTO head office in Vienna, Austria. Also, SG Vilaivan had a chance to discuss with RADM. Chakkrit on the Post-Certification Activities Contract and MOU between two organizations.
