Thailand participates in the SMR Conference in Seoul

              On June 11, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, OAP Secretary General, attended the South, Central, and East Asia FIRST Regional Conference on Advancing the Safe and Secure Deployment of Small Modular Reactors from June 11 to 13, 2024 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The conference was co-hosted by the USA and Republic of Korea. This conference focuses on safety considerations, security, and nuclear non-proliferation, particularly regarding the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a clean energy option to achieve Net Zero in the future. The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), as the regulatory body for nuclear and radiation safety, is preparing for SMR technoolgoy by enhancing legal frameworks, personnel capacity, and regulatory guidelines to ensure maximum safety for workers, the public, and the environment.

             In connection with SMR technology, OAP will host the Workshop on Suitability Study of Small Modular Reactor for Thailand at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center from July 23 to 24 and July 26, 2024 to conduct a feasibility study and to prepare its regulatory framework for SMR.
