Dr. Rungrueng Kitphati, Director-General of the Department of Science Service and Acting Secretary-General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), is advancing the government’s clean-energy policy under the agenda of “Environment – Clean Energy – Low-Carbon Society,” one of the key policy pillars of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The initiative focuses on energy transition, carbon-emission reduction, and the promotion of clean technologies for sustainable development, aligning with the priorities of MHESI Minister Surasak Phanchareonworakul.
As part of this effort, OAP Deputy Secretary-General Ampika Apichaibukol participated in an international roundtable on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology titled “The Round Table on Advances in SMR Development,” held on 20 November 2025 at the Embassy of Denmark in Thailand. The event gathered representatives from the private sector, academia, and relevant government agencies.
The meeting aimed to exchange perspectives on advancements in nuclear technology, the development of safe-standard SMR systems, and potential collaboration for future sustainable energy solutions. OAP presented its work on preparing nuclear safety regulatory infrastructure — including legal development, regulatory frameworks, and human-capacity building — to ensure public and environmental confidence should Thailand adopt SMR technology in the future.
