Thailand, through the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, participated in the 54th Regional Co-operative Agreement General Conference Meeting (RCA GCM), held on 12 September 2025 in Vienna, Austria. Ms. Ampika Apichaibukul, OAP Deputy Secretary-General and Thailand’s National Representative to the RCA framework, joined representatives from 22 member states in the Asia-Pacific region.
The RCA GCM, convened annually alongside the IAEA General Conference, reviews progress of RCA projects and sets future strategies to align with both regional needs and global priorities. During this year’s meeting, RCA members, IAEA officials, and the RCA Regional Office (RCARO) mapped out the 2026–2027 work strategy in line with IAEA flagship initiatives, including:
Rays of Hope (nuclear medicine for cancer care)
Atoms4Food (food security)
NUTEC Plastics (plastic pollution mitigation)
ZODIAC (zoonotic disease control)
Atoms4NetZero (clean energy and climate action).
Thailand presented its progress in nuclear technology applications, reaffirming its commitment to peaceful uses of nuclear science, strengthened regional collaboration, and sustainable benefits for Asia-Pacific.
The country’s active engagement in RCA not only underscores its leadership role in peaceful nuclear applications but also enhances Thai human resource capacity, facilitates access to new knowledge and technical support, and delivers tangible benefits to society. These include improved medical treatments, higher agricultural productivity and food safety, environmental management, and clean energy development—all contributing to the region’s and the world’s sustainable development goals.
