Thailand Expands Radiotherapy Access via Ramathibodi–IAEA Anchor Centre

On 18 September 2025 in Vienna, Austria, Dr.Rungrueng Kitphati, Acting Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, attended the 69th IAEA General Conference. He highlighted Thailand’s progress with the Ramathibodi–IAEA Anchor Centre (based at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University), including a statement delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krisanath Chueamsamakki, the Thai representative of the Anchor Centre.

Dr.Rungrueng said Anchor Centre status will expand Thai patients’ access to safe, high-quality radiotherapy, while strengthening workforce, technology, and medical radiation standards across the Asia-Pacific. OAP is working with the Ministry of Public Health, the National Cancer Institute (Department of Medical Services), and the Office of the Permanent Secretary to scale services nationwide, including remote areas. Meeting these goals would improve the effectiveness of cancer treatment and enhance survival and quality of life for patients throughout Thailand.
