OAP Partners with IAEA to Enhance Radiation Safety Regulation in Radiotherapy

               Dr. Rungruang Kitphati, Director-General of the Department of Science Service and Acting Secretary-General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), presided over the opening ceremony of the National Training Course on Regulatory Control of Radiotherapy. The training is organized under the project to develop regulatory infrastructure for countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

               
                The course is conducted online from 27 October to 7 November 2025, and will also include an in-person session at the OAP headquarters from 17–21 November 2025. A total of 30 participants are attending, including officials from OAP’s Radiation Safety Regulation Division and representatives from the Thai Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

                 The training aims to strengthen the capacity of radiation safety regulators to effectively oversee and inspect radiotherapy facilities in accordance with IAEA standards, particularly the principles of Justification and Optimization.

                 Distinguished experts from Thailand and abroad are serving as lecturers, including :
                 Dr. Tosadol Santhawamaitri, Senior Radiation Physicist, OAP – “Current situation and perspectives for the regulation of radiotherapy in Thailand: OAP training expectations.”
                 Professor Imjai Chitapanarux, President of the Thai Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology – “Radiotherapy equipment and techniques currently in use in Thailand and foreseeable developments.”
