Ms. Pennapa Kanchana, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), together with Mr. Ruffin Maneechayangkul, Nuclear Engineer, participated in the 16th Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN) Annual Meeting held in Perth, Australia, from November 3–5, 2025. The event was co-organized by the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to exchange experiences and strengthen nuclear safeguards in the Asia-Pacific region.
Ms. Pennapa was invited to speak on the topic “Women in Safeguards”, highlighting the importance of confidence, determination, and mentorship in empowering women in a male-dominated field. She emphasized that OAP promotes gender equality at all levels—from recruitment and professional development to leadership opportunities—and supports a flexible work environment and women’s participation in international forums.
The meeting brought together over 40 participants from 15 countries, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand, to share knowledge and enhance regional cooperation to ensure the safe, efficient, and transparent use of nuclear technology under international safeguards.
Thailand’s participation demonstrated OAP’s proactive role in advancing nuclear safety and security while promoting women’s capacity building and participation in the nuclear sector at both technical and policy levels.
