A national workshop titled “National Workshop on Enhancing Nuclear Security Culture” was held on 5–6 February 2026 at a hotel in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Thailand. The workshop focused on Session I: Nuclear Security Culture: from Policy to Practice and was jointly organized by Thailand’s nuclear regulatory authority and the Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation, Security and Human Resource Development (ISCN) of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA).
The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of the importance of nuclear security culture, which is a key element in preventing and responding to nuclear security threats at both national and international levels. It was conducted in line with guidance and technical recommendations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), emphasizing practical implementation, self-assessment, and sustainable development of nuclear and radioactive material–related facilities.
This event followed Thailand’s participation in the IAEA International Nuclear Security Advisory Service (INSServ) mission in 2024, which highlighted ongoing challenges in strengthening nuclear security culture. In response, the national nuclear regulatory authority initiated cooperation with JAEA/ISCN to translate policy-level commitments into concrete operational plans and practical measures.
Participants included policy-level executives and senior officials from relevant government agencies, academic institutions, state enterprises, and private sector organizations involved in nuclear technology, energy, and radioactive materials, totaling approximately 37 participants. The workshop sought to deepen participants’ understanding of the concepts, components, and application of nuclear security culture as a critical tool for strengthening and advancing Thailand’s nuclear security policy in an effective and sustainable manner.
