On June 10, 2026, OAP convened the 14th Meeting of the Subcommittee on the Safety of Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management at Meeting Room 313, Building 1, OAP, and via electronic conferencing. The meeting was chaired by MS. Supitcha Chanyotha, Lecturer at the Department of Nuclear Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. The Subcommittee reviewed the results of the safety assessment report for a radioactive waste management facility, with a focus on evaluating the suitability and safety of its operations in accordance with national nuclear and radiological safety regulations, standards, and requirements.
In addition, members of the Subcommittee conducted a site visit to the Radioactive Waste Management and Safety Technology Center, located within the premises of the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization) in Chatuchak. During the visit, the Subcommittee received updates on operational activities and observed facility operations firsthand to assess the readiness and effectiveness of the radioactive waste management system. The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange technical views, observations, and safety-related recommendations, which will serve as important inputs for the Subcommittee’s deliberations.
The meeting and site visit reflect OAP’s commitment to ensuring effective nuclear and radiological safety oversight in line with international standards. By drawing upon the expertise and recommendations of specialists from various fields, OAP continues to strengthen confidence that Thailand’s radioactive waste management practices are conducted safely, responsibly, and in a manner that prioritizes the protection of the public, the environment, and national security.
