OAP Opens the National Institute of Nuclear and Radiation Reference Standards Laboratory to Showcase Thailand’s Quality Infrastructure and Strengthen Confidence in Radiation Measurements

On July 9, 2026, Dr. Rungrueng Kitphati, Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), presided over the opening ceremony of the “National Institute of Nuclear and Radiation Reference Standards Laboratory” at the Alpha Conference Room, 60th Anniversary OAP Building. The seminar highlighted the roles, responsibilities, and technical capabilities of the National Institute of Nuclear and Radiation Reference Standards Laboratory : NIRRS as Thailand’s national authority for radiation metrology. It also provided participants with insights into radiation instrument testing and calibration systems, as well as internationally recognized radiation metrology services delivered to government agencies, regulatory authorities, medical institutions, universities, and research organizations. The event supports the policy of Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) of Thailand, to foster Thailand’s innovation ecosystem and promote data-driven national development by strengthening the country’s quality infrastructure and measurement standards. These efforts are intended to enhance the application of science, technology, and innovation in support of sustainable national development.
