OAP Advances Regulatory Readiness for 9,000 MW of SMRs, Supports Nuclear Liability Bill, Reaffirms IAEA-Aligned Safety Standards

The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has reaffirmed its full readiness to regulate Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power plants with a combined capacity of 9,000 megawatts, in accordance with Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP). The move supports the policy direction of Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, which focuses on advancing frontier technologies and innovation under the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model to strengthen energy security and build public confidence.
