OAP and IAEA together host Regional Workshop on preparation for tabletop exercise to test national communications SOPs from July 8 to 12 to build capacity on public communication during a nuclear or radiological emergency situation for twenty one participants from nine ASEAN countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. The participants will have ample opportunities to learn from IAEA experts on strategy, techniques, plan formulation and public engagement and will be expected to apply their knowledge to their national contexts.
Assoc. Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, OAP Secretary General, thanked IAEA for dispatching subject matter experts to help create scenarios for table-top exercises for the participants and reiterated the importance of public communication during the nuclear and radiological crisis. Proper public communication will calm the public panic and certainly contribute to effective emergency responses from relevant authorities.
