Assoc. Prof. Pasit Lorterapong and the IAEA experts together make a study visit, as a part of the Nuclear Security Advisory Service (INSServ), at several facilities relating to Thailand’s nuclear security regime. This study visit provides basis for assessing capabilities on nuclear security with respect to nuclear technology used in customs control and detection and nuclear material monitoring by front line officers. Several institutes have taken part in this study visit, including, Department of Customs, Bangkok Port Customs Office, Port Authority of Thailand, Laemchabang Customs Office, Chiang Khong Customs House in Chiangrai and Nuclear Engineering Department at Chulalongkorn University.
The assessment is beneficial for enhancing the country’s capabilities and operational framework within the context of nuclear security, particularly in relation to the security of nuclear and radioactive materials that fall outside regulatory control. This continuous system development aims to address emerging threats and incidents that may impact the country’s nuclear security. Moreover, it will help Thailand gain international recognition for its contribution to global nuclear security efforts.
