The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has established the Eastern Regional Office of Atoms for Peace (EROAP) to support its mission of regulating nuclear and radiation safety across Thailand’s Eastern Region. The office is responsible for overseeing operations in seven provinces—Sa Kaeo, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat—which constitute one of the country’s most strategically important regions in terms of economic development, industrial activities, transportation and logistics, as well as the utilization of radiation sources and radioactive materials.
During 16–17 June 2026, Ms. Tanawan Chamsuwan, Expert on Administration Development and Acting Director of the Eastern Regional Office of Atoms for Peace, together with Mr. Naripon Pensiri, Head of Radiation Generators Inspection Section, Nuclear and Radiological Inspection Division, and the delegation, paid courtesy visits to executives of government agencies and local administrative organizations in the region. The visits aimed to introduce the mission, roles, responsibilities, and operational plans of the Eastern Regional Office of Atoms for Peace, as well as to strengthen cooperation in advancing nuclear and radiation safety initiatives at the local level in a concrete and sustainable manner. As part of the mission, the delegation met with key officials in Rayong Province, including Mr. Kanchai Thepworachai, Deputy Governor of Rayong Province; Ms. Salareewan Thapthawee, Deputy Governor of Rayong Province; and Mr. Pairoj Ruangthurakit, Mayor of Ban Chang Municipality.
EROAP exchanged information on the current utilization of radiation technologies in the region, regulatory approaches to nuclear and radiation safety, and measures for nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response. The meeting also explored opportunities for integrated cooperation with local agencies to strengthen coordination and operational effectiveness.
