Thailand Strengthens Global Role in Advancing Nuclear for Peace with ASEAN Seminar Commemorating 30th Anniversary of the CTBT

On 16 July, 2026,  The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), hosted the special seminar “30 Years of the CTBT in ASEAN: Past, Present, and Promise for the Future” to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening for signature of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Held at the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok. The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, who reflected on the pivotal role of the CTBT over the past three decades in advancing global efforts to ban nuclear testing and reinforce the international nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament regime. He also shared his vision for the future of the Treaty, highlighting emerging challenges and the importance of sustained international cooperation to achieve the common goal of a world free of nuclear weapons testing.
