On August 10, 2026, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) continued to advance Thailand’s national innovation strategy with the goal of positioning the country on the global clean energy map. Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has introduced a proactive policy agenda centered on Frontier Innovation and Green Energy Innovation Thailand to prepare Thailand for the future application of advanced energy technologies, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), while establishing a nuclear safety regulatory framework aligned with international standards to ensure public confidence and safety. To translate Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat’s policy into concrete action, Dr. Rungrueng Kitphati, Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), together with OAP executives, traveled to Beijing, China, where they held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Hou Yingdong, Deputy Director General and Director of the Nuclear Energy Safety Regulation Bureau of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA), China’s national authority responsible for nuclear and radiation safety regulation.
