On this occasion, Dr. Rungreung welcomed Timor-Leste as the newest Member State of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and congratulated the Agency on its 70th anniversary. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to working with the IAEA and its Member States to ensure that nuclear science and technology contribute sustainably to global peace, security, and prosperity. He also underscored the importance of international obligations as mutually reinforcing mechanisms for advancing a world free of nuclear weapons. In addition, he highlighted Thailand’s achievements in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy and technology. These include Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, being designated as the first Rays of Hope Anchor Centre in Southeast Asia. The centre will help share Thailand’s medical expertise and strengthen regional capabilities in nuclear medicine and long-term cancer care.
Other notable achievements include the nationwide distribution of radiopharmaceuticals to more than 40 hospitals, the domestic production of Sm-153 EDTMP using Thailand’s research reactor to alleviate bone pain in cancer patients, and recognition of the internationally award-winning innovation “OhSeleNoCancer,” which combines radiation technology and nanotechnology for targeted cancer drug delivery.
