The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), and the Council of Science and Technology Professionals (CSTP) are advancing their collaboration on the regulation of science and technology professionals in the nuclear and radiation fields. This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two organizations, which establishes a framework for cooperation in providing technical and academic information, developing training curricula, and exchanging information relevant to their respective licensing processes.
As part of this collaboration, Assistant Professor Dr. Boonsong Khaikate, President of CSTP, and a delegation from the Council met with Dr. Rungruang Kitpati, Secretary-General of OAP, to exchange information and discuss approaches to implementing the MOU. A key focus of the discussions was to establish a connection between professional licenses for regulated science and technology practitioners in the nuclear field and OAP’s regulatory and licensing systems.
This integration aims to ensure that practitioners possess the appropriate professional qualifications and licenses corresponding to their respective duties. It will also help strengthen national standards for nuclear and radiation safety while supporting the development of a qualified workforce to meet Thailand’s future needs, particularly in preparation for the potential deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
