The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), expressed its appreciation to the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and its team in Thailand for their valuable support. The CNNC team in Bangkok has played a vital role in helping OAP expand its cooperation network and establish partnerships with leading Chinese institutions possessing specialized expertise. OAP also commended China’s progress in the peaceful development of nuclear energy.
OAP will co-host the China–Thailand Training Workshop on SMR Technology Development and Regulation with SNSTC and CAEA on 28–29 September. This workshop represents a significant and tangible milestone in the continued commitment to technical exchange and mutual learning, particularly as the global energy landscape transitions toward advanced technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
OAP emphasized that public safety remains its highest priority, serving as the fundamental basis for protecting the public and building lasting confidence. Recognizing the urgent need to strengthen institutional capabilities and technical expertise, OAP aims to accelerate the development of its personnel’s technical and regulatory competencies to ensure they are fully prepared for future responsibilities, drawing on CNNC’s international expertise.
OAP is also committed to developing a legal and regulatory framework that can accommodate future technological advancements. In this regard, OAP seeks to study China’s nuclear regulatory framework as a reference for benchmarking and modernizing Thailand’s regulations. OAP looks forward to CNNC’s continued support in this important area of cooperation.
