On 18 September 2026, Ms. Chalatip Kueakob, Secretary of the Department of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), presided over the opening ceremony of the annual fire safety training and evacuation drill for fiscal year 2026. The event was held at the Nuclear and Radiation Operations Building (OAP 60th Anniversary Building), with the opening ceremony taking place in the Main Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Building 1, followed by practical exercises in the vicinity of the OAP 60th Anniversary Building.
More than 140 OAP officials, staff members, and relevant personnel participated in the event, which aimed to enhance knowledge and understanding, as well as preparedness for fire prevention and emergency response, thereby reducing the risks and potential losses to personnel and property. The training was conducted with the support of instructors from Lat Yao Fire Station.
The training comprised theoretical sessions on fire preparedness and evacuation procedures, followed by practical evacuation drills and firefighting exercises. The functionality of OAP’s fire protection systems and equipment was also tested to ensure that personnel were familiar with emergency procedures, equipped with the necessary skills to prevent and control fires, and able to communicate and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
This initiative reflects OAP’s continued efforts to strengthen workplace safety measures, protect its personnel and assets, and support the continuity and effectiveness of its operations. It also reinforces OAP’s commitment to maintaining nuclear and radiation safety and security in the fulfillment of its regulatory responsibilities.
