On June 16, 2026, Dr. Rungrueng Kitphati, Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), together with H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), on the sidelines of the 66th Session of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission in Vienna, Republic of Austria.
The meeting focused on enhancing Thailand’s role as a regional CTBTO training hub for ASEAN while advancing the international disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation architecture in support of the global goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. Discussions also covered the development of an international training center and the expanded use of CTBTO data for earthquake, tsunami, disaster, and nuclear emergency early warning, as well as environmental studies and the monitoring of radioactive releases into the environment. These initiatives are in line with the policy of Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), to strengthen Thailand’s contribution to international cooperation in the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
