OAP, MHESI Mobilizes Experts to Review SMR Siting Regulations, Strengthening Safety in Line with International Standards and Building Public Confidence through Transparency and Accountability

The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), is advancing the development of laws and regulatory approaches governing the siting of nuclear facilities to support the future deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Ms. Ampika Apichaibukol, Deputy Secretary General of OAP, presided over the opening of the workshop entitled “Review of Regulations on the Siting of Nuclear Facilities: Session 2 – Requirements for External Hazards Caused by Human Activities and the Delineation of Site and Related Zones,” held during 6–7 August 2026 at Rama Gardens Hotel, Bangkok. Approximately 47 participants from OAP and relevant agencies attended the workshop to exchange information, experiences, and views on developing appropriate approaches for the licensing of SMR sites in accordance with international standards.
