Dr. Rungrueng Kitphati, Director-General of the Department of Science Service and Acting Secretary-General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), announced that OAP, under the policy of Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi, is organizing a workshop titled “Expert Mission to Create Awareness of NORM among NORM Industry (Mining) and Public” from June 9–13, 2025. The event is held in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of a technical project aimed at enhancing national capacity to manage radioactive waste and Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM).
The workshop, attended by 38 participants from government agencies and related businesses, includes lectures, knowledge-sharing sessions, group discussions, and a site visit to a mineral processing facility in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. It aims to raise awareness about NORM risks and improve regulatory oversight in the mining sector.
Dr. Rungrueng emphasized that this initiative is a key step in strengthening national safety regulations regarding NORM, enhancing human resource capabilities, and fostering international cooperation—aligning with global safety standards and sustainable development goals.
