OAP Advances Provincial Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Response Planning to Strengthen National Safety and Emergency Preparedness

The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), organized a seminar entitled “Guidelines for Developing Provincial Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Response Plans” from 30 June to 1 July 2026 at The Imperial Hotel, Phitsanulok Province. The seminar aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the principles of nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response, while strengthening the capacity of provincial personnel to develop practical and effective nuclear and radiological emergency response plans. The plans are intended to align with Thailand’s National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Plan, as well as relevant nuclear and radiation safety legislation and international safety standards. More than 25 officials from Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centers across Northern Thailand participated in the event.

The seminar featured presentations on a range of key topics, including the peaceful applications of nuclear energy and radiation in Thailand, the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved in nuclear and radiological emergency response, emergency notification and inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and practical approaches to developing provincial nuclear and radiological emergency response plans. The knowledge and guidance provided are intended to support participants in preparing emergency response plans tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of their respective provinces.
